Police: Sidewalk preacher punches man after discussion about religion

SEATTLE — Seattle police officers said they arrested a man who had been preaching on the street before he punched another man in the face.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Friday, officers were called to a report of an attack at the intersection of Broadway East and East Olive Way in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.

Officers found a victim on the ground who said he was punched by a man who had been preaching with a loudspeaker on the sidewalk.

According to a Seattle Police Department significant incident report, after a discussion about religion, the sidewalk preacher pushed the victim, who fell to the ground. Shortly after, the same man walked over to the victim, who was still on the ground, and punched him in the face.

The victim told police he believed the attack was due to his religious affiliation.

Officers said they were able to find evidence of the incident, and the man was arrested for investigation of malicious harassment and booked into King County Jail.
