Police investigate Saturday shooting in Lake City; one person in custody

LAKE CITY, Wash. — Seattle police are investigating after a man was shot in Virgil Flaim Park in North Seattle just before 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

Around 4:30 p.m. Saturday officers took a suspect into custody. The suspect is not being named as they have not been charged yet. Police said they do not know what the motive is.

Virgil Flaim Park is located at 2700 NE 123rd St. about 15 blocks northwest of Nathan Hale High School.

Witnesses called 911 after they saw a confrontation between two men that ended with shots being fired.

Officers arrived at the park and found a man with a single gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Officers spoke to witnesses who said the confrontation may have started because the victim owed the suspect money. The witnesses said the suspect pulled out a silver handgun and fired, striking the victim once.

The suspect sped away in an SUV.

Officers searched the are but were unable to locate the suspect.
