In a statement Friday, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said that just before 1:00 am Friday, a deputy spotted a vehicle traveling well over 80 mph with its lights blacked out on 224th St. E in Spanaway.
According to the statement, when the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated and exceeded 100 mph.
The office said that since the car was driving in an “extremely dangerous manner and the roads were clear of traffic at that hour,” deputies pursued the vehicle.
The statement said the chase continued until other deputies got out in front of the car and used stop sticks.
According to the office, after the car hit the stop sticks, it struck a light pole and an unoccupied vehicle.
The driver, an 18-year-old, and the passenger, a 22-year-old, were arrested.
While clearing the vehicle, deputies located a Glock handgun equipped with a modified switch and an extended magazine in plain view. The vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant.
