TACOMA, Wash. — Pierce County is praising one of its Transit bus operators for his quick thinking during a route.
On Sept. 23, Pierce Transit Bus Operator Ricardo Munoz-Reyes saved a 4-year-old child he saw alone along his route near Ainsworth & 104th St. in Tacoma.
The city said Munoz-Reyes spotted the child just before 11 a.m.
The child was wearing only a diaper, walking near the busy street by himself, the city said.
Munoz-Reyes took the child onto the bus, notified authorities, and stayed with the child until he could be safely reunited with family.
“We want to recognize Ricardo for his swift actions,” said Ron Mackenzie, Transportation Assistant Manager for Pierce Transit. “Our drivers are trained to be aware of many types of situations, and we thank him for being alert and stepping in to help this child. We consider him a hero.”
KIRO 7 has reached out to Tacoma police to see if an arrest or charges were possible for the child’s parent or guardian.
