A Pierce County man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for sex crimes involving a minor.
Randy Lee Young, 40, was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Seattle for attempted enticement of a minor and producing child sexual abuse material, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington.
Young was arrested in November 2024 after communicating with an undercover law enforcement officer he believed was a mother willing to provide her young daughters for sexual abuse, prosecutors said.
According to records filed in the case, the fake daughters were 8 and 11 years old.
Investigators say Young drove from Pierce County to Marysville for a planned meeting and was arrested when he arrived.
A search of his phone led investigators to evidence that Young had previously sexually abused a 13-year-old girl he met online. Prosecutors said Young traveled to the girl’s hometown in southwest Washington multiple times and recorded the abuse. Messages showed the girl had told Young she was 13.
In her victim statement, the mother of the 13-year-old said, “He stole more than her innocence. He stole her sense of safety, her ability to trust, and parts of a childhood that she cannot get back… As her mother, one of the hardest parts has been knowing that I cannot go back, that I cannot undo what happened, and that I cannot give her back the innocence and sense of security that were taken from her.”
In asking for the 15-year sentence, prosecutors wrote to the court, “The defendant chatted with the undercover officer about his intentions for eight days before showing up to act on his desires. He was provided opportunities to disengage and instead doubled down by informing the undercover he wanted to follow through with his ‘fetish.’”
“The community is safer with this defendant off the street,” Acting U.S. Attorney Charles Neil Floyd said.
U.S. District Judge Lauren King also sentenced Young to 20 years of supervised release after his prison term. A separate hearing is scheduled for February 2027 to determine restitution for the victim.
