BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A portion of Larrabee State Park in Bellingham is closing for nearly nine months so that water lines can be replaced.
Washington State Parks says some of the pipes may be original to the park, which was founded in 1915, so it’s time for an upgrade.
Camping will be closed from September 15 through May. It could be longer, depending on the weather.
Washington State Parks says the day-use facilities will be intermittently available during construction.
Some areas of the park will remain open through construction, including:
- Boat launch
- Cleator Road
- Chuckanut Drive
- Cove Road
- Hiline Road
- Clayton Beach
- Interurban Trail
- Lost Lake parking lot
- Lost and Fragrance Lake trail
According to a news release, the new system will improve water service to hookup sites in the campground and to facilities, day-use areas, kitchen shelters, and other parts of the park. Larrabee campers will also enjoy improved water quality.
Larrabee State Park is set on the seaward side of Chuckanut Mountain. It is known for its postcard views of Samish Bay and the San Juan Islands.
