SEATTLE — Seattle police arrested a shooting suspect — a known felon — while responding to an armed robbery along Aurora Avenue North on Tuesday.

According to the Seattle Police Department (SPD), patrol officers responded to reports of a robbery with a knife just after 2 p.m.

While investigating, officers reportedly found a man in the hallway of an apartment building with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Seattle Fire Department crews transported the 36-year-old man to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition. Police say he is expected to survive.

SPD reports that officers found the apartment believed to be associated with the shooting and detained all of the occupants.

“Officers arrested one of the residents, a 45-year-old man armed with a handgun, for the shooting. Police recovered the gun, previously reported as stolen by the Renton Police Department, as evidence,” wrote SPD.

The suspect, a convicted felon, is prohibited from having any firearms. He was booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Assault and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

At this time, SPD detectives cannot confirm if the shooting and robbery are related, and the circumstances leading up to both incidents are under investigation.
