EVERETT, Wash. — Two-time Olympic discus thrower Jarred Rome died from a fentanyl overdose, the Snohomish County medical examiner ruled. Rome was 42.
According to the medical examiner, the Marysville native was found dead in a hotel room at the Tulalip Resort Casino on Sept. 21.

He was inducted into the Boise State Hall of Fame in 2007.
Information on the circumstances that led up to Rome's death are unclear, but the medical examiner said it appears to be accidental.

Rome graduated from Marysville Pilchuck High School in 1995 and Boise State University in 2000.

Rome represented the United States at the Olympics in 2004 and 2012. He won the 2011 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2011.
At the time of his death, Rome was an assistant coach for the men's track and field team at Boston University.
