New narcotics detection K-9 joins Puyallup Police Department

PUYALLUP, Wash. — An 18-month-old German shepard, K-9 Otto, is the newest member of the Puyallup Police Department.

Otto came to the Police Department courtesy of the Washington State Department of Corrections K-9 program.

Otto made his debut alongside Officer Bond last week after completing 240 hours of training.

Police said Otto is able to detect cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and ecstasy.

“The arrival of K-9 Otto represents the resurrection of our Narcotics K-9 Detection program. The program went dormant after the retirement of K-9 Timber a few years ago,” Puyallup police said.

Police said the addition of Otto should lead to an increase in the amount of narcotics seized by officers.
