Mount Vernon parents arrested for death of 2-year-old

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Two Mount Vernon parents have been arrested in connection to the death of their two-year-old.

According to Mount Vernon police, the child was found unresponsive in a home on N. 21st St on Sept. 16.

Despite life-saving efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, detectives found “evidence of drug use inside the residence,” according to Mount Vernon PD.

A preliminary drug screen test for the child was positive.

A final toxicology is pending and the medical examiner will determine a cause and manner of death.

Arrest warrants were issued for a 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were arrested for first-degree manslaughter, reckless endangerment and violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act (UCSA).

On Oct. 7, the pair were taken into custody by the North Cascades Regional SWAT Team.

The investigation is ongoing.
