MONROE, Wash. — The City of Monroe is actively monitoring Lake Tye Park after multiple birds were found dead and others began showing symptoms consistent with avian influenza, they said.

The city said municipal staff members are treating the situation as a potential outbreak and have contacted the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).

WDFW has not yet officially confirmed the presence of bird flu at the park.

In a public advisory, the City of Monroe warned residents to avoid direct contact with affected wildlife at the park. “Do not handle wild birds that are obviously sick or found dead,” the city stated.

For individuals who may inadvertently come into contact with an ill bird, municipal officials outlined specific sanitary measures. “If you come in contact with a sick bird, please take special precautions to ensure that shoes and clothes are cleaned and disinfected to prevent the spread of diseases,” the city advised.

Residents seeking further information can access guidance through the Washington State Department of Health website or monitor the municipal page here.
