SOUTH KING COUNTY, Wash. — King County’s on-demand car service Metro Flex is adding two cities to its growing list, with service for Auburn and Federal Way planned to start at the end of the month, Aug. 31.
Metro Flex, which has already launched in 10 cities, including Kent, Tukwila, and Delridge, provides riders with an alternative to taking the bus or light rail. Instead, riders book a trip on their phone and get picked up in a Metro-run minivan for a flat fee.
Rides in Auburn and Federal Way will cost $3, according to a press release from King County Executive Girmay Zahilay. That being said, transfers to a bus or light rail will be free, and reduced fares will exist for “seniors, riders with disabilities and customers with lower incomes,” according to the release.
“Expanding Metro Flex into Auburn and Federal Way adds an important new transit option and helps reshape how people move through their daily lives in two of our fastest-growing communities,” King County Executive Girmay Zahilay said. “As we continue to strengthen our multimodal transit network across King County, partnerships like these help us keep South King County moving and make it easier for people to get to work, appointments, events and everything our region has to offer without relying on a car.”
The release notes the Auburn and Federal Way extensions will go for just two years.
