Man shot by Puyallup officer after allegedly charging them with metal pole

PUYALLUP, Wash. — The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office says a man is in the hospital after he charged a Puyallup police officer with a metal pole and ignored commands.

Deputies tell KIRO 7 News that the incident started around 7:30 p.m. Someone called 911, saying the man was threatening to kill his sister.

Law enforcement tells KIRO 7 that an officer arrived at the home alone on 4th Avenue Northwest and was waiting for backup when the man came at him with the pole.

At last check, the man is in critical condition. Deputies say he was shot multiple times.

The Tacoma Police Department will be handling the investigation.
