SEATTLE — A 31-year-old man had to be rescued from the water after falling out of his kayak on Saturday near Alki Beach, Seattle police said.
A harbor crew patrolling the water spotted what appeared to be an empty kayak around 3:30 p.m., and after further investigation noticed a man clinging to the side.
The man was pulled from the water and was immediately treated for exposure.
According to authorities, the man was wearing a life jacket but had been in the water for at least an hour and was near exhaustion.
The man was taken to shore, where medics then took him to the hospital.
First responders are reminding people that the water temperature is still cold and that hypothermia can occur in as little as 15 minutes. They are still advising anyone who is going to be on the water to wear a life jacket.
