EVERETT — A man has been found guilty in the murder of a 15-year-old who was fatally shot while waiting with classmates for a bus to Kamiak High School, Sept. 8, 2023.

KIRO 7 video from that day shows police on the scene on Hardeson Road collecting shell casings from bullets that they say flew out of a stolen car as it drove past the bus stop.

Investigators say the target was 15-year-old Bryan Tamayo-Franco, who was shot dead by members of a rival gang.

“Yeah, that’s pretty sad, especially out here,” Jacob Nieves, in Everett, said Friday.

Nieves said he didn’t know Tamayo-Franco, but he and others KIRO 7 spoke to were encouraged to hear police arrested two people in case: 20-year-old Uriel Hernandez Martinez, who was accused of organizing the hit, and 19-year-old Victor Torres Zuniga, the alleged trigger man.

Martinez pleaded guilty to second degree murder in a plea deal.

Thursday, Zuniga was convicted of first-degree murder, premeditated murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

“It’s good that justice is being served,” Gabriel Baltazar said Friday.

“Justice for the [victim’s] family,” Nieves added.

A sentencing hearing is set for later this month.
