OAK HARBOR, Wash. — A 32-year-old man was arrested Friday after police found an injured woman semiconscious in a greenbelt in Oak Harbor.
Oak Harbor police said officers were called around 7:28 a.m. to the 31000 block of State Route 20, where they found a 40-year-old California woman with apparent injuries to her face and upper body.
Police said the woman initially told officers she had been in an argument with another person before becoming unresponsive.
Whidbey Health paramedics and Oak Harbor firefighters treated her at the scene before flying her to a regional trauma center.
Investigators said evidence showed the woman was in an intimate relationship with a 32-year-old man and that there had been physical altercations between the two over several days.
Police contacted the man at the Acorn Motor Inn around 7:03 p.m. Officers said they took him into custody following a brief standoff.
The man was booked into the Island County Jail on suspicion of second-degree assault, second-degree assault by strangulation, and violating a domestic violence protection order.
Police said he was expected to remain in custody for a preliminary arraignment in Island County Courts.
