LONGVIEW, Wash. — A Longview man was arrested Tuesday morning after police say he assaulted his girlfriend and threatened her with a handgun during a domestic violence incident.
Officers responded to the home at around 8:25 a.m. on Sept. 15 after receiving a report of an assault involving threats with a firearm.
According to police, 47-year-old Mandeep Singh allegedly assaulted his girlfriend during an argument and threatened her with a gun, causing her to fear for her safety. The woman was able to leave the home with their child and call police.
Officers surrounded the residence and attempted to contact Singh by phone, text message, and loudspeaker. When he did not immediately respond, detectives obtained a search warrant for Singh and the firearm.
The Lower Columbia SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called in to assist. After about two hours of negotiations, Singh exited the home and was taken into custody without incident.
During a search of the residence, officers found a handgun in a bathroom and seized it as evidence.
Singh was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail on suspicion of felony domestic violence harassment and fourth-degree domestic violence assault.
