RENTON, Wash. — The latest segment of King County’s 16-mile-long Lake to Sound Trail will open Wednesday.

The 1.1-mile long section connects the Green River Trail near Tukwila’s Fort Dent Park on the west end, circles the north edge of Renton’s Black River Riparian Forest, and ends at Naches Ave SW.

King County Executive Dow Constantine and other public officials are holding a 2 p.m. ceremony to celebrate the opening of “Segment A.” The event will be held on the north end of the bridge crossing the Black River on the west end of the Black River Riparian Forest, at 555 Monster Rd SW.

The next segment to be completed will link Burien and Des Moines. Work there starts later this year.

Once complete, the non-motorized, multi-use paved trail will connect Renton, Tukwila, SeaTac, Burien and Des Moines as well as four other major regional trails.

Work on the trail has been ongoing for the past four years. It’s expected to take another two years to complete.
