A weather system has soaked the Puget Sound, increasing landslide risks this week.

KIRO 7 PinPoint meteorologists expect that rain will taper to showers around the Sound on Tuesday with occasional sunbreaks, but another cold front cuts through Wednesday bringing breezy conditions with more rain.

The combination of several days of rain is likely to increase the landslide threat in Western Washington—particularly from Everett south—around the middle of the week.

As of Monday, the Department of Natural Resources deemed that the slide risk in Pierce County was moderate, but that risk is expected to increase with rain on Wednesday.

A new slide closed State Route 503 near Mount Saint Helens on Monday. The landslide brought rocks and trees down across the road.

Washington State Patrol troopers did not give a time for reopening.

Nearly a month ago heavy rain caused problems around Western Washington. It caused sinkholes and mudslides that closed major roadways.
