An elderly Kirkland woman is sharing her story about how a bobcat ended up inside her home in the middle of the night.
It happened last week.
“I heard this noise coming down the stairs, and then something bumped up against my bedroom door,” said 93-year-old Tina.
At the time, she had no idea what was going on.
“I called 911 because I thought maybe somebody was in my house,” Tina said. “I was scared.”
While she waited for police, Tina says the bobcat was after her cat.
“They were just tearing the place apart up there,” she said.
Officers arrived, discovered the bobcat, and used a small drone designed for tight spaces to keep an eye on it.
“They flew it inside the house. They were able to locate where the bobcat was and then secure the bobcat into a room where we could have Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife come out to see,” said Officer Tiffany Trombley with Kirkland PD.
The bobcat was sedated, then released unharmed near Forbes Creek.
Tina says the bobcat got into her house by chasing her cat up a tree and through an upstairs window.
She adds that one other thing kept her safe: closing her bedroom door.
“Never close the door – that night I did,” said Tina. “How I truly believe in guardian angels, because those two could have come in my bedroom while I’m in bed.”
Now, she’s got a sense of humor about the whole ordeal.
“I’m going to put a sign up saying ‘no bobcats allowed.’”
