Court documents: Island County deputy arrested for alleged rape had history of sexual harassment

A deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Thursday on an investigation of two separate allegations of rape.

According to documents provided by the Skagit County Prosecutor’s Office, Island County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Sargent John Nieder, was booked into Skagit County Jail on two counts of second-degree rape.

According to the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and detectives executed search warrants in the 20000 block of Oleary Road in where Nieder was arrested.

She said Nieder told her he had been accused of sexual harassment by his partner in Detectives and a male co-worker.

After identifying Nieder, court documents say the second victim said Nieder told her if she looked him up, there would be articles of sexual harassment against him.

The first victim said Nieder told her he had been fired from his job as a sex crime detective for assaulting his last partner.

Both victims told investigators told similar stories of drinking with Nieder, then losing control and

Investigators believe Nieder provided a “date rape” drug to both women, saying the drug was possibly mixed in a drink that Nieder poured for them.

After an examination, urine from the second victim was collected and tested for sedatives. Those lab results are not back yet.

Nieder is currently being held in the Skagit County Jail.
