Woman dies 2 weeks after being attacked by another patient at Tacoma psychiatric hospital

TACOMA, Wash. — The Tacoma Police Department (TPD) says a 25-year-old man is facing murder charges after beating a woman to death at a psychiatric hospital.

The suspect and the victim were both patients at Wellfound Behavioral Health in Tacoma, TPD said.

Court documents allege that at around 8:10 p.m. on March 14, the man knocked the 63-year-old woman to the ground in an unprovoked attack while walking down a hallway at the facility.

He then punched her repeatedly before staff were able to subdue him and inject him with a sedative, documents show.

The woman was brought to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but died two weeks later on March 30.

The man was arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail, facing murder charges, according to Tacoma police.
