TACOMA, Wash. — Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium needs help naming its first-ever porcupette.
She was born on August 17 to mom Quillow and dad Nigel.
“She’s thriving and growing at the Wild Wonders Outdoor Theater, where animal care staff are keeping a close eye on her as she develops,” staff shared.
Keepers have selected three options:
- Amora: Portuguese for “mulberry or blackberry,” connecting her name to the language and native habitat of prehensile-tailed porcupines in Brazil.
- Bristle: A playful nod to her stiff, bristly hairs, quills and unmistakable porcupine personality.
- Bramble: Inspired by a prickly plant with tangled branches, reflecting her spiky quills and curious nature.
Voting is open now and closes on Wednesday, September 30, at 11 p.m. The winning name will be announced later that week.
