Friends gather to remember Marysville teen killed in hit-and-run

MARYSVILLE, Wash. — Friends gathered in Marysville to remember 18-year-old Shane Santos, a teen hit and killed by a suspected drunken driver.

Santos and two friends, Alex Ryan and Jarad Clawson, were traveling on the shoulder of Shoultes Road late Saturday when they were struck by a car.

Police arrested the driver, Terrence Oleson, after he fled the scene, investigators said.

Organizers of Monday's vigil said they put the event together for Santos’ grandmother.

“His grandmother and I thought that she should see how much her own grandson impacted everyone,” said Tia Abell.

Santos was also known as "Bambi” and " "Hugs." On almost any given day, you could find him hanging out in Marysville's Comford Park where many of his friends gathered Monday.

“He’s my best friend since sixth grade and now he’s gone,” said Christian Mitchell.

Santos was remembered by his friends as fun-loving, with a big smile and always had a hug. He was a master of the dance called the techno-shuffle and sometimes worked in the family pet store.

The two survivors are in serious condition in Harborview's intensive care unit.  One suffered head injuries and a broken leg and the other has pelvis and spinal fractures.

“He was a great person. He didn’t deserve to die,” said Jake Samonds.
