SEATTLE — Wednesday night, the 100-year-old Fremont Bridge hosted an inaugural lighting display that is now a permanent installation.
Lighting artists Hayley Buckbee and Ian Campbell worked with the Office of Arts and Culture and the State Department of Transportation electrical team to create the new display.
The lights are focused on the under-bridge., with slow, undulating lights.
Campbell said the lights can be experienced from above as well. Light comes up through the grated pedestrian deck.
The display “casts a nice glow on the water,” Buckbee said.
The display is “designed to be different and unique every single night of the year. … It’s an undulation of colors based on the seasons and the lunar cycles,” Campbell said.
It's part of the Seattle Bridge Lights project, which will create illumination displays at the University, Fremont and Ballard bridges.
