Flights halted at Yakima Airport after car crashes into control tower

YAKIMA, Wash. — Flights were halted at the Yakima Airport after a serious car crash early Friday morning.

Airport officials said a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed into power boxes and the control tower.

The driver, who later died from his injuries, was suspected of being impaired.

The tower is being repaired.

Power is out at the airport and nearby businesses, the Yakima Herald-Republic reported.
