AUBURN, Wash. — About sixty people were displaced after a 3-alarm fire ripped through an apartment building in Auburn late Sunday night in Auburn.
Crews from Valley Regional Fire, South King Fire and Puget Sound Fire were called to the Riverfront Apartments on 8th Street Northeast.
James Evans lives in the building. He was not home at the time of the fire, but his girlfriend was.
“(I) called my girlfriend back and she was hysterical. She couldn’t get out the front door because the stairwell was engulfed in flames. She had to jump from the third story to the second story, where some bystanders helped her get down from the second story,” said Evans.
Firefighters said seven apartments are considered a total loss, and 20 more have some degree of damage.
Firefighters say the fire began in a carport area, but the exact origin point and cause is still not known.
Firefighters say no people were hurt, but a litter of puppies died in the fire.
