FBI increases reward to $50K for suspect wanted in 2002 Lakewood murder

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest of a man wanted in connection with a 2002 murder in Lakewood.

Liban Abdulkadir Sheikh is accused of killing a man and seriously injuring a woman at the Meadowbrook Apartments on Nov. 27, 2002.

According to the FBI, Sheikh allegedly forced his way into a residence while armed with a semiautomatic handgun. Investigators say he shot a man six times in the back of the head, killing him, before shooting the victim’s girlfriend twice in the back and leg.

Sheikh allegedly fled Washington after the shooting and was later seen in Minneapolis.

He was charged in Pierce County Superior Court with first-degree murder, first-degree assault and first-degree burglary. A federal arrest warrant was issued Dec. 9, 2002, after Sheikh was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

The FBI says Sheikh has ties to, or may have traveled to, several locations, including Seattle; Minneapolis; Columbus, Ohio; Surrey and Vancouver, British Columbia; Amsterdam; Oslo; London; and Somalia.

The agency’s wanted poster includes an image of Sheikh that has been age-progressed to show what he may look like at 47 years old.

The reward was originally $2,500 before being increased to $20,000 in 2022. It has now been raised to up to $50,000 for information leading to Sheikh’s arrest.

The FBI considers Sheikh armed and dangerous.
