EVERETT, Wash. — A man accused of trying to lure pre-teen girls into his vehicle has been arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
According to Everett police, officers responded to a call on Aug. 5 for a report of an older man in a minivan following around a group of girls near Walter E. Hall Park.
The man was allegedly trying to get three young girls (ages 11-13) into his car before a bystander intervened, according to Everett PD. During that intervention, the man drove off.
One of the girls said she was walking to the park when the man pulled up next to her and asked where she was going, according to EPD. She told him, and he offered a ride to the park, which she declined. Everett police said that when she got to the park, she saw the man waiting there. He spoke to her again and tried to get her into his minivan, saying he would give her alcohol, according to Everett police.
As police were responding, an officer found a vehicle that matched the description.
Officers went to the home of the vehicle owner to ask him about the incident.
He denied being at the park and had changed clothes, so one of the young girls was unable to confirm the driver’s identity.
Using license plate readers (LPR), officers were able to piece together a timeline of the vehicle traveling to and from the park during the incident with the girls. Everett police said his face was also captured on cameras near the park.
On Aug. 13, officers got an alert from the LPR that the man’s vehicle was on W. Casino Road.
They tracked the location and arrested the suspect.
He was booked into Snohomish County Jail for luring a minor.
