KEY PENINSULA, Wash. — The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) says a 32-year-old man tried to speed away from deputies on Thursday night, even after the hood to his pickup flew up and blocked his view.
At around 2:30 a.m., a deputy saw the truck driving slowly along the Key Peninsula Highway near the intersection of State Route 302.
The driver reportedly went into the oncoming lane when the deputy tried to pull him over and he started to drive away, PCSO said.
Authorities said he then hopped out and tried to secure the hood of the car before getting back in and sped off.
Soon after, the hood flew up and blocked his view of the road but he continued down the highway at around 50 miles per hour.
After hitting a spike strip and a deputy conducted a PIT maneuver to stop the car, the man was arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail.
He is facing charges of eluding, driving on a suspended license, and a felony Department of Corrections escape warrant from community custody, PSCO said.
