People who KIRO 7 ran into haven’t heard about the random attack of a woman who was walking her dog May 5 around 8 p.m. at Highline High School.
“If somebody tried to hurt me or my dog, I’d shoot them,” Cheryl Rogers, who’s lived in Burien for 30 years, said. “I wouldn’t hesitate.”
“After hearing something like that, it’s really scary,” said Shelley Young, who moved to Burien from Tukwila.
The King County Sheriff's Office released a sketch of the man who they say assaulted a woman walking her dog last month. He’s described as Hispanic, in his 20’s, with a medium build, brown eyes and short, black hair.
According to police, he was wearing blue jeans, a black jacket and black shoes.
There was a sporting event at the school that night, and as people were leaving, police say the man asked the woman how to get to the game at Highline High School.
After she gave him directions, the man walked over and stood by a tree, and then approached the woman while attempting to pet her dog, police say.
Her dog started growling, so she picked up the dog and ran away.
But the man caught up with that woman, wrapped his arms around her neck and then started choking her, police say. Her jaw was broken during the assault, according to police.
The woman got away, ran home and that’s when she called police.
Investigators said the man ran back to the area where people were leaving the sporting event.
“If people stop and engage you, keep your distance from them,” said Rogers. “Don’t walk at night. It’s very dangerous.”
