Deputies investigating after man allegedly shoots scrap metal thief in Gold Bar

GOLD BAR, Wash. — The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man allegedly shot another man who he caught stealing scrap metal from his property.

Around 6:35 p.m., deputies responded to the 14500 block of Wallace Lake Road in Gold Bar after receiving reports of a shooting.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies located a 60-year-old man lying on the side of the road with two gunshot wounds.

He was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

During their initial investigation, deputies learned a 65-year-old man was walking his dog when he spotted the victim stealing scrap metal from his property.

The property owner confronted the man, leading to a fight between the pair. The property owner then fired two rounds at the man, striking him in the chest and leg.

The two men did not know each other prior to the shooting, according to the SCSO.

Deputies detained the property owner, who was later released after being interviewed.

The SCSO will continue to investigate this incident.
