SEATAC, Wash. — Thursday is expected to be the busiest holiday travel day on the roads and at airports.

AAA predicts a record 112 million travelers for Christmas and New Years days – a third of the total US population.

Sea-Tac airport is no exception. It's expected to have a crush of passengers heading to their flights.

The airport predicts that the period from December 13 to January 4 will see a projected 3.1 million passengers.

The busiest travel days will be the four-day period from December 19 to the 22 when more than 640,000 travelers are expected to go through the airport.

As the airport deals with the crowds, it is also warning passengers about thieves trying to steal luggage.

The airport also wants passengers who don't fly very often to know that there are changes at the airport, such as new terminal construction.

The airport says more than half of the travelers who use the airport only fly one or two times a year and encourages travelers to arrive at least two hours before their flight boards.

If you're picking up or dropping off people, the airport says it’s best to drop people off at the arrivals level in the morning and pick up passengers at departures in the evening to avoid heavy congestion.
