BURIEN, Wash. — Detectives from the Burien Police Department’s Crime Reduction Unit arrested two convicted felons Tuesday morning following a traffic stop.
The Burien Police Department (BPD) says officers spotted a vehicle traveling 70 mph in a posted 35 mph zone on S 128th Street in Burien.
They said detectives followed the vehicle after learning it may have been involved in a burglary in Shoreline. Officers followed the car while waiting for additional police units to arrive before initiating the traffic stop in Tukwila.
After stopping the vehicle, police arrested the driver for driving with a suspended license.
Police say a search led to the recovery of two handguns, illegal drugs, and distribution equipment.
BPD said the front passenger was not wearing a seat belt and initially gave officers a false name. After confirming his identity, deputies discovered an active Department of Corrections warrant for third-degree assault. A search of the passenger revealed a loaded revolver.
Both men are convicted felons barred by law from owning or possessing firearms, police said.
Both people were booked into the King County Jail. The driver faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute, and driving while license suspended. The passenger was booked for unlawful possession of a firearm and making false statements to a public servant.
