A Tacoma high school assistant principal has become the target of complaints by some parents, because of lyrics in a rap song he wrote and performs.
The song is called "Cancel Christmas." (You can listen to the song here.)
The performer, Logic Amen, an assistant principal at Lincoln High, says it was written from the perspective of a young man facing a bleak holiday because his family is low income, and includes these lyrics:
"Give me a reason just to load up a rifle -- pull the fire alarm in the lobby of my high school.
Leave the halls bloody like a high noon tycoon
I'm about to cancel Christmas.
I won't leave a freakin' witness.
Naw. I put Santa on my hit list."
“Me saying that is just basically describing the background that could be the background of any student that goes to a school that was shot up throughout history,” Amen tells KIRO 7.
Amen says the lyrics aren't meant as a threat or to advocate school shootings.
“No, no!,” Amen said. “I’m not advocating that at all. What I am advocating is, be aware that there are people out there that exist that are impacted by these societal pressures.”
