Community members invited to share feedback on potential school consolidations

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Nearly a month after Olympia School District Superintendent Patrick Murphy recommended closing three elementary schools in the area, the district is holding public hearings across the district to gather community feedback at schools slated to close.

The first town hall is being held Thursday at 6 pm. Community members can attend on Zoom or in person at LP Brown Elementary School.

According to the district, the hearing will give the community a chance to share feedback on the possible consolidation.

Another hearing is set for October 19 at Madison Elementary School in Olympia at 6 pm.

Those who want to give comment at the meeting are asked to submit it ahead of time or to sign up within the first hour of the meeting in person.

In a September statement, Murphy said the closures could save the district an estimated $3.1 million a year.
