Clark County Sheriff looking for burglary suspect identified as ‘Derek’

CLARK COUNTY, Wash. — The Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is asking for the public’s help identifying a man involved in a residential burglary near Battle Ground on Oct. 21.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., CCSO says the suspect broke into a shed on the property and stole fishing gear while the homeowner was inside her house. The suspect then kicked in the back door of the home. He dropped several of the stolen items and fled after the homeowner yelled at him to leave.

They say after leaving the residence, the suspect dropped several of the stolen items and ran. He then approached a nearby home and asked a neighbor for a ride to Yacolt. The neighbor declined the request, but a doorbell camera captured surveillance video of the encounter.

During the interaction with the neighbor, the unidentified burglary suspect claimed his name was “Derek.”

An unsuspecting driver, unaware of the burglary, later provided the suspect with a ride.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information to help identify the man. Anyone with relevant details is asked to contact Deputy Damon Casetta-Stubbs by email at Damon.CasettaStubbs@clark.wa.gov and reference Case #26007958.
