A vehicle hit and sheared a power pole in half near Enumclaw earlier this month, bringing high-voltage power lines down into dry vegetation and igniting a brush fire.
On August 7, Mountain View Fire and Rescue crews responded to a reported vehicle vs. power pole collision near SE 424th Street and 244th Avenue SE.
Arriving firefighters positioned themselves to protect the surrounding area and keep the brush fire from spreading while waiting for utility workers to arrive. Once Puget Sound Energy addressed the electrical hazard and it was safe to operate, firefighters quickly extinguished the remaining fire.
Mountain View Fire & Rescue responded to the crash alongside crews from the Enumclaw Fire Department, Puget Sound Fire and the City of Buckley Fire Department. Technicians from Puget Sound Energy also assisted at the scene to resolve the electrical hazard.
No injuries were reported in the collision, firefighters confirmed.
The fire department also took the opportunity to remind the public to always assume that downed power lines are energized. Drivers and pedestrians should never approach, touch, or drive over fallen wires, but should instead maintain a safe distance and call 911.
