JEFFERSON COUNTY, Wash. — A Brinnon man and convicted criminal who attacked his former girlfriend with a machete in 2021 was sentenced to 16 years in prison, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
Officials said James N. Parker pled guilty to first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and harassment with threats to kill his former girlfriend.
On Jan. 17, 2021, at about 9:30 p.m., deputies were called to an area of Highway 101 where Parker’s girlfriend drove to report being attacked after escaping her home.
The woman reported to deputies she had opened her door and was immediately attacked with a machete.
The woman suffered cuts to her right and left arms, upper back, head, shoulders, and neck during the attack, deputies said.
She had to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle due to the nature of her injuries.
Deputies said Parker fled south on Highway 101 into Mason County. However, they found his car, which was blocking traffic on the highway, and found him hiding only 100 yards away in the woods.
Although Parker will spend 195 months in prison, he will also be required to serve 36 months of Department of Corrections supervision following his release and undergo chemical dependency and mental health treatment.
