Boat engulfed in flames near Bainbridge Island

KITSAP COUNTY, Wash. — A boat was fully involved in flames near Bainbridge Island on Thursday morning.

The boat was burning about a mile south of the Agate Pass Bridge in Kitsap County between Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap.

According to Michelle Laboda with North Kitsap Fire and Rescue, the 30-foot boat starting burning near Sandy Hook.

A friend of the boat’s driver was following the vessel in another boat when he noticed the flames.

The driver of the burning vessel was able to get onto his friend’s boat, but they were unable to rescue a dog that was on board.

The boat began to drift through Agate Passage and came to rest off Bainbridge Island west of Manzanita.

The owner of the burned boat did not appear to be injured.

The vessel's home port is Brownsville, Wash.
