SEATTLE — A beloved coffee shop in West Seattle has been saved thanks to the community's help.
“We did it,” Cameron Moores, owner of C&P Coffee Company, said. “It's unbelievable.”
Faced with a tall order, Moores fought back against a familiar foe.
But she didn't do it alone.
“This is kind of a miraculous thing,” Moores said.
KIRO 7 first told you back in January the building C&P was leasing off California Ave went up for sale. The property was billed as a "terrific development opportunity" and listed at $1.25 million.
Moores and her husband, Pete, knew they would be up against some of the biggest developers. Rather than being pushed out, they turned to the community they'd been serving for the last 15 years for help.
“Hundreds of people have contributed to helping us pull this off. An entire community,” Moores explained. “We were really fortunate that we had something called right of first refusal so we were able to match whatever was put on the table and that's how we are here today.”
Moores says she can't share details of the deal.
But she is humbled by the community's support.
“I think it's really a bigger picture of the city reacting to rapid development and getting a moment to pause and say what we do we want next?” Moores said.
By pitching in to save the historic craftsman, loyal C&P devotees say it shows they will have a voice in how West Seattle grows.
“There's a lot of great growth going on in this community,” Jameson Morrell said. “It says we can hang on to the meaningful spots.”
While their story isn't unique, the happy ending is.
Now, Moores is committed, more than ever, to serving the community that rallied to save her shop.
“We are forever grateful. Thank you,” added Moores. “C&P and et cetera.”
Moores hopes to close on the sale in the next month. She said there are plans to have a big closing party to say thank you to the community.
