Bellingham police officers, like every officer, confront people breaking the law. But they're taking a new approach in hopes of reducing those criminal encounters.
They're handing out Slurpee coupons to kids, many of whom come from families who have never had positive interaction with police.
A lot of the kids hightail it out of there when they see the police car in their apartment complex, but once the officer shows them the coupon-- their attitudes change.
