We’re nearing the end of an August that has been predictably dry but only slightly warmer than normal around Puget Sound.
High temperatures in Seattle still typically reach about 76 degrees at the end of August.
But we’re unlikely to see even that kind of warmth for the rest of the month!
In fact, looking at this month’s high temperatures at Sea-Tac Airport, a remarkable bit of “bad luck” has befallen warm weather lovers this August.
At least those who work during the week and play on the weekends.
Of the first 26 days of August through Wednesday, only nine have had cooler-than-average high temperatures in Seattle. So, overall, it has been a warm month.
But seven of those nine cool days fell on weekends. Saturday, Aug. 8, stands out as the only “warm” weekend day this entire month. That’s a real bummer for those who love the dog days of summer and work a Monday-through-Friday job (like I do).
This upcoming weekend isn’t going to soften the blow, either, with cooler temperatures forecast right through the final weekend of the month. The coolest day for the rest of August looks to be Saturday, when highs will top out in the upper 60s to around 70.
The silver lining is that we do have some much-needed rain chances in the Pinpoint Forecast, though any rain we get Thursday and again on Saturday will likely be spotty.
Cooler-than-normal temperatures are expected to continue into next week, and even the long-range outlook for the first week of September favors below-normal temperatures across the Northwest.
It might not be “sweater weather” quite yet, but the window for shorts and T-shirts is slowly closing, and maybe a little earlier than usual.
