At about 10:08 p.m. Feb. 12, deputies with the King County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at a 76 gas station in the 14800 block of 1st Avenue South in Burien.

The reporting party said deputies his friend, Elijah Chase Dye, had been shot in chest. Dye died at the scene.

Deputies were told Dye had gotten into an argument with the suspect, when the suspect pulled a revolver out of his waistband and shoot Dye once.

Another witness described the shooter to investigators, saying she has known “Eugene” for years.

She said the argument started when Dye told Eugene to calm down after Dye started to talk to her.

She said they stepped away, continuing to argue. She said she heard a loud bang and saw Eugene walking away.

She said Dye walked over to her, “looking at me kind of funny.” Dye sat down on the ground, then fell over and “started seizing.”

First responders treated the victim, but he died at the scene.

On Mar. 7, Eugene Vanell Piper was arrested in Seattle. He was booked into the King County Jail on charges of second-degree murder.

Prosecutors asked bail to be set at $2,000,000.
