SEATTLE — Alaska Air Group announced today it’s cutting about 200 jobs.
The layoffs will affect non-contract employees at Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Horizon Airlines.
The company told KIRO 7 News that 125 of the positions are in Washington.
Pilots, flight attendants, guest services employees an maintenance and engineering positions won’t be impacted.
Alaska Air Group pointed to a challenging operating environment, including volatile fuel costs and broader geopolitical pressures as reasons for the decision.
“We recognize the impact these decisions have on our employees and their families, and we are deeply grateful for the contributions they have made to get Alaska Air Group to where we are today. We remain committed to treating our people with care and respect throughout this process and are providing support through this transition, while maintaining the financial and operational strength needed to serve our guests and invest in our future,” the company shared.
Those impacted will part with the company on November 31.
The company said it would continue to pay the employees through December 31.
