ABERDEEN, Wash. — Aberdeen police arrested two men following separate felony incidents Tuesday, including a machete attack behind a retail store and a threat involving a crowbar that ended with a standoff in an attic.
Both incidents occurred on Tuesday, August 4. The first call took place behind Tractor Supply just after 7 a.m., when a 20-year-old man allegedly struck a victim multiple times with a machete after an altercation escalated. Aberdeen police reported that one of the strikes targeted the victim’s neck, but the victim’s sweatshirt luckily caught the blow, and they only suffered minor injuries during the altercation.
The 20-year-old suspect was arrested for felony assault and taken to the Grays Harbor County Jail.
Later that same day, at around 6:30 p.m., police responded to an incident in Cosmopolis involving a report of a man armed with a crowbar.
According to Aberdeen PD, investigators determined a 32-year-old man had threatened a woman with a crowbar. Police said the man prevented the woman from leaving the home during the dispute. When the suspect refused to come out of the residence after repeated commands, officers obtained a search warrant to enter the property.
Police used a drone to search the interior of the house and eventually located the man hiding in an attic space. Officers gave multiple orders for the man to come out, but he did not comply. Police used pepper spray in an attempt to get the man to surrender, but the department reported the measure was unsuccessful.
Officers then shot the man in the lower back with an FN 303 less-lethal round. Following a brief struggle in the attic, the 32-year-old was arrested and evaluated by Aberdeen Fire Department personnel. He was booked into jail on charges of felony domestic violence harassment, unlawful imprisonment, obstructing a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.
