82-year-old man assaulted and car stolen during Whatcom County test drive

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — An 82-year-old man was violently assaulted and had his vehicle stolen during a test drive Thursday, on Aldrich Road in Whatcom County.

The Everson Police Department (EPD) says it is helping the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.

They say the assault occurred during what was planned as a routine vehicle test drive.

Investigators are working to locate two suspects, described as one male and one female, and recover a stolen 2001 Toyota Highlander.

The EPD describes the female suspect as reportedly driving a dark blue or black 2002 to 2004 Honda CR-V, which features a distinctive white stripe running along its sides and a rear-mounted spare tire that may have a cover.

The male suspect was last reported leaving the scene in the victim’s stolen 2001 Toyota Highlander, police said.

The Everson Police Department asked the public to assist law enforcement by watching for both cars.

“We are asking our community to be on the lookout for both vehicles. Someone may recognize them or have information that could help investigators identify those responsible,” the department said.

Authorities warned residents against taking direct action if they spot the vehicles or suspects.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or either vehicle is asked to contact the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and reference case 26A36654.
