Driver injured after tree falls on vehicle on I-5 in Fife

FIFE, Wash. — A driver was injured after a tree fell on her vehicle on Interstate 5 in Fife Wednesday afternoon.

The incident caused a miles-long backup in the southbound lanes near 70th Avenue East before 3:30 p.m.

Chopper 7 flew over the backup, where a Prius was flattened by the tree. See photos here.

Harborview spokeswoman Susan Gregg said Wednesday night Sabetto has head and neck injuries that are not life-threatening and was upgraded to serious.

The driver of the Prius was struck in the head by the tree. The 54-year-old woman, Mary Sabetto, was taken to Harborview Medical Center.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a Nissan Altima was also struck by the tree. The 55-year-old driver in the vehicle was not injured.

A gofundme account has been set up to help pay for Sabetto's medical expenses.
