TACOMA, Wash. — Interstate-5 southbound in Tacoma was closed for several hours as crews investigated and cleared a wrong-way crash with several people injured.
The crash was reported around 8 a.m. on Sunday near S 84th Street.
According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Kameron Watts, one driver was allegedly driving north in the southbound lanes when the crash occurred.
A WSP crash memo said two cars were involved in the crash.
The causing driver is a 24-year-old from Texas, and the victims were both from Renton. One of the people injured was a 14-year-old.
Initially, Watts reported that four people were injured, with three seriously injured.
The driver from Texas was also injured and is included in that number.
The causing driver was arrested for DUI and vehicular assault.
More charges could be brought forth, Watts said,
The investigation is ongoing.
