SEATTLE — A suspect surrendered to police Saturday afternoon after two people were shot in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District, the Seattle Police Department said.

Seattle police first tweeted about the shooting, which happened near 12th Avenue and South Jackson Street, around 12:30 p.m.

They both were taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition. The child was unhurt.

SPD said that two people were shot around 12:15 p.m. and two suspects then fled the scene.

A 28-year-old woman, who was walking with her child, and a 48-year-old man were found with gunshot wounds to their legs, police said.

Police said the man had been shot during a robbery.

After witnesses provided police with a description of the suspected shooter and the woman he was with, police found both in a car at a gas station located at Rainier Avenue South and South Charles Street, authorities said.

The woman immediately surrendered and was taken into custody.

The man barricaded himself in the car and a SWAT team began negotiating with him.

The suspect surrendered around 2:40 p.m.

Police said they recovered a gun from the car.

Both suspects were questioned by investigators and then booked into the King County Jail. The woman was booked for first-degree robbery and the man for first-degree robbery and assault.

According to police, they notified the Department of Corrections that the man had been booked as he had a warrant for escaping community custody related to a robbery conviction.
